I will write this just once, so let me be clear: Emerson Mulciber cannot have done this thing of which he is accused, and he will be proven innocent. Those of you who are slandering his character and passing judgment on him ought to be ashamed of yourselves. He has had no trial. He has not been proven guilty, and that decision is not yours to make.

I stand behind Mulciber and the due process of our courts, not the rumour mill and the swift and unfounded condemnation of the mob. I call upon those Ravenclaws who are truly intelligent, those Hufflepuffs who are truly fair, those Gryffindors who would fight for truth and justice, and those Slytherins who know Mulciber's character, to withhold judgment upon our classmate until our justice system has handed down a verdict in this matter.

The notion that Slytherin Quidditch had anything to do with the disappearances of last week would be laughable if it were not so serious a claim. If anyone truly believes that Barbara Grey-Fawcett would ever engineer anything of this nature, he may say it to my face; I will be obliged to defend my captain's honour.

Besides, it's simply insulting to insinuate that we would ever feel the need to resort to such machinations in order to defeat Hufflepuff.

My family is, of course, relieved by the safe return of my brother. I have been personally assured by the Aurors that he is in fine health and will suffer no ill effects from his time away. He seems not at all traumatised by the experience. Of course, Urquharts are strong by nature, and are not easily discomposed. Pyrrhus is, after all, descended from Muireadhach Urquhart himself.

And here I had thought, after the debacle surrounding their last win, that Gryffindor couldn't get any more entertainingly incompetent. Apparently I was wrong.

It is greatly unfortunate for my brother that he did not heed the Ministry's warning about opening suspicious packages. Those who are concerned for Pyrrhus's safety will be pleased to learn that the burns on his hands are only superficial.

The Ministry does not look lightly upon terrorism by post, particularly when a child is injured as a result. My father, who is employed by the Wizengamot, has ensured that Aurors are looking into the provenance of this package, and my family is confident that our law-enforcement officials are more than capable of discovering the ones responsible.

If Gryffindor insists on fielding little girls as Beaters, they should at least teach them to stick their brooms and to duck. It's unfortunate that Longbottom was injured, as any injury is unfortunate, but it's hardly my fault that she failed to block my Bludger effectively. Perhaps, Branson, you ought to look into whether you've trained your squad sufficiently before letting them onto the pitch.

I turned eighteen today. Not a noteworthy birthday, of course, other than to mark the passage of time. And, I suppose, to remind me that I must begin to think more seriously about my future.

Neatly done. It's a pity that the halfbreed seems to have recovered fully, but we can't always have the results we desire on the first attempt. I am curious, however; was Anastasia truly involved?

Is it permissible now for werewolves to make wild accusations and threats against students without consequence? In light of her condition, which make her threats far more dangerous than that of any normal witch or wizard, she ought to be closely observed and kept from close contact with those she has so bizarrely accused. We wouldn't, after all, want her to snap and attack students.

Perhaps the Headmistress and the board of governors ought to revisit their decision to allow Meliora Llewellyn to attend school. She's proven herself to be volatile and unpredictable and has threatened harm upon those students whom she accuses; with young students in the castle and the Ministry's pet muggles just a stone's throw away in the village, it seems irresponsible to allow her to run unchecked.

How did he dare allow that to happen? Even as soft as he is, is it wrong to expect a modicum of family loyalty, of decency, of pride in his blood and in thirty generations of Slytherin Urquharts?

Wood. Branson. Potters and Weasleys. They're behind it. My family is shamed because of them. Muggles and squibs, filth and freaks, and an Urquhart in Gryffindor. It's gone too far. Father must be informed. We must act.

Gryffindors, I'll write this only once. When you laugh at the expense of an Urquhart, the last laugh will most assuredly be on you. If you believe you have somehow won in this, be warned, you are gravely mistaken.

I knew the quality of Hogwarts had gone down into the muck. Tonight only proves it further. Muggles and squibs at Hogwarts? The Minister, the school governors, and all those who support this plan have truly lost their minds.

Took Pyrrhus to fetch his school supplies today. His first year: such an important one, with his Sorting ahead, though naturally he'll be a Slytherin. No Urquhart has Sorted elsewhere in more than thirty generations.

My uncle Jolyon's release from Azkaban last week has kept us all occupied. He's quite interesting for a man who's been imprisoned since the age of seventeen, over half of his life -- not entirely mad after all. He's taken a keen interest in the news of the day and is following the Harper trial avidly. I believe that he knew Aiden Harper in school. We all, of course, hope that justice will be served and Harper will be treated fairly, though in the current atmosphere that may be too much to hope.

Jolyon Yaxley is to be released from Azkaban on the 20th of this month. He wasn't originally due to be released until the first of October, but apparently he's being sent out early due to the need to open up his cell. After spending twenty-five years in that pit, I can't imagine that a month will make much difference to him, but it will be interesting to have the chance to meet him before I return to school. He is my mother's brother and will be staying with my family for a time. My mother has told us that Jolyon was always certainly the most reserved of her brothers, but by now he may well be as insane as my grandfather Urquhart -- an interesting thought.

I don't suppose, however, that he'll be charming knives to fling themselves at Muggle-lovers anytime soon, so never fear, Ms. Crook is safe from at least one nefarious Yaxley.

I looked into the Prophet today to find a wad of Transformation Party propaganda disguised as "educational reform". Sweet Salazar, what's next? Hiring one of Macmillan's muggle friends to teach Basic Handholding and Friendship Bracelets 101? Disbanding Slytherin House and letting muggles in by the front door? Cancelling Quidditch and turning the pitch into a field for some muggle sport instead?

Hogwarts is going to be a school for Ministry propaganda within a few years if this keeps up. My younger brother will be starting his first year in September, and I shudder to think what this place will be like by his seventh year if the reformists have their way.

Summer's going well. I've been studying with my father and considering bloodlines. It strikes me that the Hogwarts population as a whole is remarkably uneducated regarding the traditional views of blood and marriage alliances between lines.

The following chart divides current Hogwarts students and alumni into classes based on the degree of purity in their blood. In general, bloodlines will be maintained or increased by marrying within one's own class. That is to say, an A will produce the fittest and most suitable offspring only by reproducing with another A, and so on. Classes C and D, that is to say, halfbloods, will produce first-generation pureblooded offspring within one or two generations respectively, who would then bring the family line up to Class B. The ultimate goal of such linebreeding is to increase the overall purity of Wizarding society, which can be accomplished in several generations if each witch and wizard wed only within his or her own class.

These are only general guidelines, and of course any specific mating will have its own degree of suitability. Still, some of you may find it interesting and instructive.
